On a Summer's Day

Some of my fondest memories growing up were visiting my dad every Summer in California.  A Summer's day was waking up to my dad blaring the Mama's and the Papa's. Sun creeping up, warming up window panes, sleepy eyes but happy feet dancing. It was freedom to me, the best of me coming alive.  I don't think my dad knew how I felt in those moments. My sisters and I would take turns with the stereo and put on the headphones and "escape" in music. I was very fond of the Mama's and the Papa's, they were California to me. California Dreaming did become a reality for me. I really wanted to be Michelle Phillips, I thought she was perfect staring at the back cover of the album. It wasn't until a few months ago did I actually buy the album myself. And listening is still California, I know the lyrics, Creeque Alley, Hey Girl, Spanish Harlem, I Call Your Name, and Got A Feelin' was played over and over. I grew up, but I still feel so young when I hear those songs. Thanks Dad.
Me and Michelle :)
